These features typically cannot collaborate across applications, requiring users to manually switch between apps. Validating Business Models and Facing Challenges

The commercial logic of AI phones rests on two assumptions: first, that users are willing to pay a premium for AI capabilities; second, that AI agents can deliver sufficient practical value to create user dependency. The rapid sellout of NaviX Ultra and the doubling of resale prices suggest that, at least among early adopters, there is market demand for AI phones. Whether this demand can extend to the mass market remains to be seen.

Vertu's strategy is more conservative. The brand has long sold status rather than specs, targeting high-net-worth individuals willing to pay premium prices for luxury goods and unique experiences. The $6,880 starting price excludes the vast majority of consumers, but for Vertu's target customers—executives and affluent buyers—this price point is within an acceptable range. The key question is whether Hermes Agent can prove its value in real-world work scenarios, rather than serving merely as a marketing gimmick.

From a technical standpoint, AI agent reliability and privacy protection are two major challenges. Agents require access to sensitive user data—messages, files, calendars, contacts—to execute cross-app tasks. Balancing convenience with privacy protection is a problem all manufacturers must solve. Additionally, the execution accuracy of AI agents directly impacts user experience: if agents frequently misinterpret commands or execute incorrect operations, users will lose trust.

Industry Trends and Ecosystem Restructuring

Chinese manufacturers' aggressive push into AI phones reflects deeper shifts in the global smartphone industry. Hardware innovation delivers diminishing marginal returns, consumer upgrade cycles are lengthening, and price wars compress profit margins. AI is seen as an opportunity to redefine mobile device interaction paradigms and create new value propositions.

IDC's forecast that over half of China's smartphone market could feature AI-capable devices this year would mark a major inflection point for the mobile ecosystem. Developers would begin designing apps and services around AI agents, operating system vendors would rethink permission management and data-sharing mechanisms, and chip manufacturers would optimize AI inference performance and power efficiency. This trend is not limited to China: major global smartphone brands are exploring similar paths, but Chinese manufacturers' rapid iteration and large-scale deployment in their home market may give them a first-mover advantage in this competition.

For users, whether AI agents become everyday tools depends on their ability to solve real problems. If agents can only handle simple voice commands or information retrieval, users will not perceive significant value. But if AI can autonomously handle complex workflows, reduce repetitive labor, and improve decision-making efficiency, it may genuinely change how people use smartphones.

The outcome of this experiment will determine whether AI phones are a fleeting marketing concept or the next paradigm for the mobile ecosystem.
